I don't know if it's what you were going for...

...but the song is lacking drum presence and -true- lower frequencies. Crank these up some, and the song will be near perfect.

Pocketpod responds:

Yeah I think I have to work on this again. thanks for your review!

Not terrible...

...but I'd rather hear your best efforts.

Very interesting piece.

A contemporary progressive song with a few traces of old school house. Reminds me of Josh Gabriel, really.

I've listened to a track or two.

You have some technique going, no doubt about that. But your composition, instrumentation and mastering need some work.

For developing composition, I can't tell you how to do this. You can -try- to teach someone how to compose, but trying to do such a thing is the greatest evil. Composition just comes from the heart. I often find that the best tracks are the ones that take forever to put together. Consider this into your producing process.

As for your instrumentation, simply find more drum samples and synths. A lot the samples and synths that you're using right now have that "default" feel to them. Avoid this feeling. Make your sound unique.

As for mastering, this could go a lot of different ways. Some folks can simply pick out the instruments, put the patterns together, and the quality already sounds nice. Many others need to spend quality time EQing and leveling out each instrument. And some take a sloppier approach, sounding as if they simply threw everything together and simply cranked a volume knob. I personally don't recommend the very latter method.

Keep submitting music. I have a feeling that you'll do well with time.

Now THIS is simplicity.

First, I'll go ahead and agree with F-777. Making sure that the audio doesn't sound muddy is half the battle in mastering.

Also, I must again stress the simplicity. It's very reminiscent of 90s house and eurodance. I'm thinking about attempting to kick off a 90s EDM revival after I'm done with my school project. Drop me a line if you're interested.

Thanks for review :)

Very interesting piece.

Old school house meets everything that is right about contemporary progressive.

DaveGuy responds:

Old School house? I don't understand

Not bad.

I definitely think that you're filling in some gaps that Scott Brown left. However, I personally think that you need to raise some of the melodic lines lines an octave or two to give the song a true happy hardcore/bouncy techno feel.

Not bad.

Sorry to deviate from the actual reviewing process, but your insight really strikes a happy nerve. I do burst a blood vessel at the sight of such comments.

It's really a situation of quantity vs. quality. I've noticed that although certain artists can crank out a dozen tunes in two weeks, the quality of composition and originality is really lacking, despite what the reviews might say.* Overall, I can say that my more lengthily-produced songs are more satisfying than songs that were rushed through, even if it brings me less attention.

So, in other words, do what gets people moving while pleasing your conscience at the same time.

*If you want me to go into fuller detail about this, feel free to ask.

meinsla responds:

I understand what you're saying, I'm just saying it's something I cannot do. I see no reason why this should strike a nerve with you.

Mastering, mastering, mastering.

You have the dirty side of dubstep, I'll give you that. But you also want to work on mastering to make sure that your sound doesn't sound like musical mud (in a bad way).

Let's put it this way: The aesthetic is filthy. Not the quality.

Pezmobile responds:

Ah, Yeah i only spent like an hour mastering this. Maybe I'll redo it and upload it again.

Thanks for reviewing!

Nothing you haven't heard before.

Great composition, but this needs to be floor-filling, and this will most likely begin with a stronger kick.

If you ever do improve with the kick, contact me.

Yeah. I'm an EDM nerd surrounded by rock and country music. Don't ask how it happened. I'm slow to produce tracks as it is, and college isn't helping. So if you enjoy my work, please be patient.
